5 Simple Low-Tox Swaps Every Mom Needs
When I first started learning about low-tox living, I was shocked at how much plastic is in our homes! Especially in baby and kids’ products. Bottles, plates, utensils, cups, and even toys… it’s everywhere.
The problem is, plastic can harbor bacteria, break down over time, and even leach harmful chemicals into our food and drinks. I wish I had known sooner, but I’m so grateful I’m learning now. Because when we know better, we do better.
If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed by all the plastic around your family, I get it. The good news? It doesn’t have to be complicated. Let’s make some simple swaps together. One small step at a time.

5 Simple Low-Tox Swaps for Your Baby and Kids
1. Swap Plastic Bottles for Glass Baby Bottles
Glass baby bottles are a total game-changer. They’re non-toxic, easy to clean, and they don’t absorb smells or flavors like plastic does. Plus, they’re super durable (and honestly, so much cuter). Many of them even have a silicone sleeve that protects the glass and gives you and baby a much better grip on the bottle. With so many options to choose from there is really no reason to continue using plastic baby bottles.

2. Switch to Stainless Steel Plates & Cups
Plastic plates and cups get scratched up over time, which makes them the perfect spot for bacteria to hide, and for micro plastics to get into food and drinks. Stainless steel is a low-tox, durable option that will last for years. Another upside to Stainless steel is we don’t have to worry about it breaking. My son first learned how to drink out of his “big boy cup” with the Stainless Steel cups I linked below, they are the perfect training cup for little hands.

3. Trade Plastic Sippy Cups for Silicone or Stainless Steel
Sippy cups are a must-have for little ones, but so many are made of plastic. Silicone and stainless steel alternatives are a safer, more durable option. All it took for me was finding mold hiding under the lid of one of my sons plastic sippy cups and I never looked back. I found the best and most affordable cups on Amazon and not only were they safer but they gave me much more piece of mind.

4. Choose Wooden Toys Over Plastic
Not only are wooden toys beautiful and timeless, but they’re also free from the harmful chemicals found in many plastic toys. Let’s be real here, up until the early child years our babies and toddlers are sticking everything they handle right into their mouth. The wooden toys are easy to clean and don’t hold onto bacteria and germs like the plastic ones. Not to mention these are fun for learning and motor skills.

5. Switch to Bamboo or Silicone Utensils
Ditch the plastic forks and spoons in favor of bamboo or silicone. They’re safer for your little ones and much better for the planet too. I wasn’t sure about the Bamboo utensils at first, but after giving them a try I felt much better about my little ones biting on bamboo than plastic. The Silicone utensils are great too. Its all personal preference, but in my house we have both none of us are missing the plastic.

It’s Not About Perfection
I’m not perfect, and don’t expect yourself to be perfect either. Can we agree we are just moms doing the best we can to create a safer, healthier environment for our kids? I used to brush it off and tell myself it wasn’t a big deal but when our kids are around these unhealthy products and putting them in their mouth daily it IS a big deal. Every little swap we make adds up. I cant say that my house is completely plastic free but I am working on removing all that I can. Let’s do this together one small change at a time.
