How Journaling Helped Me Shift My Mindset as a Mom & 5 Tools That Made It Easier
A few years ago, I was stuck in a cycle of burnout, anxiety, and survival mode. Between raising little ones and trying to do it all, I forgot what peace and clarity even felt like.
That’s when I discovered the power of mindset work through journaling. At first I thought there was no way I’d even have time to journal, but I started small. I wrote 3 things I was grateful for.
It didn’t fix everything overnight, but it gave me space to breathe, reflect, and slowly shift how I responded to daily stress.
If you’re feeling stuck or craving more intention in your day, here are 5 simple tools that helped me build a journaling practice and helped me start thinking differently.

A Guided Journal for Busy Moms
Starting with prompts took the pressure off. Instead of staring at a blank page, I could just answer a few thoughtful questions and reflect on my day. If you don’t know where to start or what prompts to use the cool thing is that there are journals out there that have prompts for you, all you have to do is fill it in. There’s something about putting pen to paper in a cute notebook that makes you actually want to use it. I keep mine by my bed for morning or evening thoughts. The best part about journaling is there is no wrong way to do it.

Affirmation Cards or Mindset Decks
These are such a gentle way to reframe your mindset, especially when you’re short on time. I’ll pull one card and journal about what it brings up for me. There are tons of different types of decks to choose from weather you are spiritual, religious, or nowhere near any of those there is a card deck out there for you.

A Comfortable Pen That Glides Easily
It may sound silly, but the right pen makes a huge difference. It makes the process smoother and feels more therapeutic when you’re not fighting your pen. There was a time when I was trying to journal but the old pens I had lying around would run out and the thought that I was trying to get onto paper turned into a frustrating thought about the damn pen I was using. Believe me when I say the pen you use matters.

A Book That Shifted My Mindset
If you’re ready to go deeper, I highly recommend a book like The Magic. It helped me connect the dots between mindset, gratitude, and action. I can honestly say this book changed my life. I have bought this book as a gift and have re-read it many times. What I love about this book is that it has you journal along with each chapter so your really taking action! I can honestly say this book was what got me journaling everyday without missing a day in months.

You don’t need to journal perfectly or every single day. Just give yourself a few minutes of quiet. Let your mind unload. It’s not about doing more, it’s about feeling better. It is amazing what brain dumping on paper will do for you. Remember, it doesn’t even have to make sense, its about getting the thoughts and worries out of your mind. There is no right or wrong way to journal.
